Nehemia Gordon's efforts as a Karaite explaining the differences between the Hebrew and Greek translations used in the Bible have been extremely eye-opening for me. He has aided my own personal desire to better understand what verses are really saying as I delve deeper into my research. It is amazing how little regard has been placed in current versions of the Bible translations that have overlooked the insights from groups that know the Hebrew language and Jewish customs. How many have ever wondered why Jesus stated not to be like the Pharisees, but also state follow the law? This reference tool clarified this without attempting to support Christianity, but with the intent to provide a foundational/seminal structure to text in the Bible.Gordon does an excellent job of providing references to support his notations each step of the way. As a scholar, this is something I value a great deal! It has pointed me to additional volumes to add to my own library in my quest to continue reading the Bible in a much more objective approach instead of the subjective manner we are guided to incorporate from our initial days in a church.

For people who are truly seeking bible truth, this is a MUST READ!!!!!! This short, we'll written, easy to read and comprehend book gives clarity to Scripture. While the subject matter is short, it will show the necessity of why Old Testament study must be included when studying the New Testament. The bible must be taken as a whole book, The first three chapters of Genesis lay out the foundation for everything in Scripture. What begins in Genesis is completed in Revelation. The shadows in the Old Testament are fulfilled as images in the New Testament. Scripture must be studied and learned with a Jewish perspective.

Still reading and loving it !! Absolutely fascinating! Extremely well researched and documented. Outlines the history of the Pharisees and the extreme changes they made in the Torah and the Law of Moses since the time of Moses. As I read I became aware of the direct parallels with the Great Apostasy after the time of Christ and the Apostles and the subsequent descent into the Dark Ages. A must read for religious history lovers and those who want to get back to the true roots of God's dealings with men and what He really taught.

This book does two very important things: it explains an otherwise difficult passage (Matthew 23:2-3) using Shem-Tov's Hebrew-language Matthew, and it also points out something many people are unaware of: "normative" (rabbinic) Judaism teaches that rabbinic tradition trumps the Talmud, and the Talmud (itself tradition) trumps the Torah. (I hasten to point out that many Christians are also guilty of making the Word of God of none effect by their tradition. Tradition isn't just a Jewish issue.)I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Absolutely essential for any Christian who has had nagging questions about what's missing from Christianity, and ESPECIALLY so because the author is NOT a Christian or a Messianic Jew. This book, by a Hebrew-speaking, Dead Sea Scrolls translating, Jewish scholar, suggests that by interpreting the NT from a Hebrew perspective, we discover truths about Yeshua that Christians have missed for over 2,000 years. What's missing about Christianity (as well as what's superfluous), is that Yeshua didn't come to start a new religion. He came to call his people, the Jews, to teshuva (repentance) and back to walking in Torah (halakah). Yeshua was expunged of his Jewishness due to anti-Semitism and sheer fear late in the first through fourth centuries (read your history books). When the vicious Romans conquered Judea and Samaria and massacred over a million Jews, only those who renounced Jewish religious customs were allowed back into Jerusalem. A perfect setup for the pagan Greek Christians to take over. Then came Constantine, who literally outlawed the holy Jewish calendar, customs and religious practices, including worshiping on the true Sabbath. But for the first 40+ years after Yeshua's death and resurrection, virtually EVERY believer in Yeshua was a Torah-practicing, Shabbat-observing, Feast-keeping and kosher-keeping Jew (again, read your history books). If you want to truly know what it means to be a Christian, and to actually move beyond Christianity, you need to read this book.

I am a Sabbath observing Christian and believe that Gods Law was not done away with when Jesus was crucified. This book has backed that up and has shown new understanding. Great book! Thank you Nehemia.

Anything this guy writes is worth reading as he is a scholar. Too few of those left in the world.
