This book has everything: spiritual exploration, religion(s), science (geology), geopolitics, travel, family, self-understanding, and love. It is not easy to describe, so I will probably rewrite this review at some point. But since it has not been reviewed before, I hope this quick review will be of some use. On one level, this is a travel book. Westerman goes to climb Ararat, but not for religious motivations. He has a small scientific task that serves as a rationalization that allows him to separate himself, mentally, from the religious types who seek the remains of Noah's Ark.....and yet....Why, deep, deep, down, is he climbing Ararat? Wonderful translation by Sam Garrett. Not quite as powerful as Engineers of the Soul, but very worthwhile reading.
